Celebrating Volunteer Heroes at the Greater Scranton YMCA for Volunteer Week!

National Volunteer Month & Week

For National Volunteer week, we are highlighting Y heroes that help make our work possible.

Megan Wolff Galko

Megan is the Chief Volunteer Officer at the Greater Scranton YMCA! Megan has served on the board of directors for 10 years. Megan and her family are active and long-time members of the Y and we are so grateful for their service and dedication in allowing us to fulfill our mission!

“I am honored to be the Chief Volunteer Officer for the Greater Scranton YMCA. Over my past 10 years of service as a board member, I have seen the Y expand and grow into this wonderful place within our community. The YMCA is more than just a gym and swim; we create valuable jobs within our community and give parents a safe place to send their children while at work.  We also serve a critical need within the Northeast PA community by offering healthy meals for children and seniors, training in water safety, encouraging healthy habits, and offer a safe place for residents of all ages to spend time with their friends. Come check out all the great things we are doing at the YMCA and learn for yourself what a special place it is!”

Jen Ricci Abeloff

Jen currently serves as the Vice President of the YMCA’s board of directors and has been a board member for 5 years. No matter the task at hand, Jen is always eager to volunteer and help with a smile on her face. Jen’s energy is contagious and our YMCA and community are so lucky she’s a part of it!

“I’ve been on the Board of the Y since 2019. I originally got involved because I had a deep desire to give back in a more active way. The Y’s mission and its tireless work to support community needs was a perfect fit for me. I have found it incredibly rewarding to be a part of the Y’s constant effort to address community needs in our area. First, with our Capital Campaign to add a Commercial and Teaching Kitchen in response to area food insecurity that was highlighted during COVID and, then again, this year with the expansion of our Early Learning Center to the Mid Valley area. I’m honored to work alongside the other Board Members, Leadership, & Staff at the Y to make these goals a reality. Being a small part of an organization that makes such a huge impact in our community is something I am so grateful for.”

Ashley Kilmer

Ashley joined the Greater Scranton YMCA’s Board of Directors in March, 2023. We are so excited to see the impact Ashley will have on our YMCA as we continue growing and adapting to meet the needs of our community.

“My role at the Y is serving as a board member. I have been a board member since March 2023. I love serving on the board because I believe that a community’s success is very dependent on its access to health and wellness opportunities for all generations. I have four children, and I also want them to know how important it is to invest time, energy, and resources to make sure you are part of something bigger than yourself and also make a positive impact for those around you. Seeing and hearing about the Y’s impact in the community has been wonderful. I am proud to be a part of it.”
