Hunger Action Month

September is Hunger Action Month. In Lackawanna County, 11.5 percent of our community members are facing food insecurity (https://map.feedingamerica.org/county/2021/overall/pennsylvania/county/lackawanna). When children are hungry, they can’t focus on their schoolwork and even show increased hyperactivity and aggression.

That’s why the Greater Scranton YMCA is working to ensure our children have access to healthy meals and snacks through our year-round food program. In the Y’s last fiscal year, the Y has provided over 50,000 healthy meals and snacks to 626 kids in our community.

We cannot continue this work without your help! Visit our website or email Meghan at [email protected] to learn more and to get involved today!
