On June 6, 1844, a small group of young men gathered in London with one goal in mind: to create a safe, supportive place for people to grow in spirit, mind and body. That vision became the YMCA and 182 years later, it’s still going strong right here in the greater Scranton region.
Our Local Legacy – Did you know? The Greater Scranton YMCA has been serving our region for more than 165 years! Here, generations of families have found support, friendship, and opportunities to thrive within our walls.
Our story is really your story, shaped by every member, volunteer, donor, and staff member who’s made the Greater Scranton YMCA a true community cornerstone
Honoring the Past Through Our Future – At the Greater Scranton YMCA, we’re proud to carry on the legacy that started in London in 1844. From swim lessons and summer camps to wellness programs, food security initiatives, and spaces to gather and connect – the Y is more than just a gym. We’re a hub for belonging, personal growth, and community impact.
As we celebrate YMCA Founder’s Day, we honor the generations of staff, volunteers, members, and supporters who have made our work possible. Your commitment keeps the Y’s mission alive, creating opportunities for everyone, no matter their background or income.
